CHURCH has long been a cornerstone of Dundee’s cultural and nightlife scene,  a place where live music, club nights, and inclusive events collide under one iconic roof.

The building itself has been a hub for social life and live entertainment for decades, hosting pubs, bars, and music venues that helped shape Dundee’s scene. In 2017, it became CHURCH: a vibrant, multi-use venue built on creativity, inclusivity, and community. Since then, it has welcomed local heroes like The View, global names including Snow Patrol, Twin Atlantic, and Texas, and club icons such as Basshunter, Cascada, the Vengaboys, and Dundee’s own Hannah Laing.

More than a Venue

CHURCH has always been more than a space to drink and dance.

It’s a safe space, especially for the LGBTQIA+ community, a launchpad for grassroots artists, drag performers, and independent promoters, and a place where people can truly be themselves. From sweaty gigs to euphoric club nights, our mission has always been simple: create a space where everyone feels welcome, celebrated, and inspired.

Rising from Challenges

Like many independent venues across the UK, the journey hasn’t been without its challenges. Rising costs, growing pressures, and a difficult chapter with our former landlord ultimately led to the doors closing on Ward Road. It was emotional, frustrating, and painful, but it also lit a fire.

Thanks to the incredible support of the Music Venue Trust, our community, and a local partner, including our friends at Beat Generator, who opened their doors when we needed it most, CHURCH was given a second chance. This new space, made possible by someone from right here in Dundee, has allowed us to keep the music, energy, and spirit of CHURCH alive, and set the stage for the next chapter.

Learning and Growing

This next chapter is about taking everything we’ve learned, the highs, the mistakes, and the lessons that only come from building something real, and levelling up. We’re more focused, more experienced, and more driven than ever to create something that truly serves the artists, the audiences, our staff, and the community that has backed us from day one.

Our new permanent home gives us some of what we were missing from the old space, providing a better environment to grow, host events, and support the scene all year round. Looking ahead, 2026 is shaping up to be our best year yet. We’ve been working on a number of exciting projects, bending the door on new ideas, and teaming up with other local Dundee businesses to bring even more energy, events, and opportunities to the scene. We can’t wait to share it all and continue building something unforgettable together.
